" I am not
a photographer by
temperament or training."
I am not impressed with Light, Precision and Clarity. . . .
it's Shadow, Diffusion and Mystery that tickle my fancy.
I'm drawn to the borderland; that balancing point between 2D and 3D,
light and shadow, realism and abstraction.
How does a
photograph enter the realm of Art ?
"One way is to reproduce beauty.
A photograph of a beautiful sunset becomes a beautiful photograph of a
sunset.
While a valid technique, it is the proverbial one trick pony.
I prefer to make visible the mystery of the ordinary. . . . .
a steam
grate at night under a warm yellow street lamp becomes something
extra ordinary. . . or. . . to find beauty in the unsightly /
an old
and rusted auto / a once proud luxury model / weeds growing through the
grill. . . . . offers a quiet majesty."
"Reality, the inside
part, is a wilderness. My photos are (ideally)
a map. . . a trail to an interesting point of view
. . . . or way of viewing."
